Bill Gates and his wife Melinda were Thursday May 4th awarded with Spain’s Prince of Asturias Award in the category of international cooperation.
The jury described their efforts and contribution to international cooperatio as an “ethical example which should call to the consciences of those who have the responsibility and means to contribute to help to eliminate the inequalities and needs of so many million people.”

According to the Financial Times, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation “spends more each year on health and education than the World Health Organisation.”
Just as an example, during the recent Davos Forum, Bill Gates announced that the foundation would be tripling its investment in a global plan to eradicate TB from $300 million to $900 million over the next decade.
They have been named the Person of the Year by Time Magazine, together with Bono in 2005. They have also been nominated to the Commitment Development Award.
